Lifting each out of poverty until there is one less

The volunteers at The One Less Foundation are often time the quiet force that helps keep the organization moving forward.

Their dedication, expertise and care that our volunteers put into helping making sure that our programs run and that the participants get the most information and help out of them is invaluable.

Without our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to do the work we do in our communities.

You are APPRECIATED and from all of us to all of you -

Volunteer: La’Quita G.

By day La'Quita works as an Associate Director in Global HR at Merck and has been a volunteer with The One Less Foundation since 2013, she most recently led one of the MoneyWISE Financial Literacy & Capability programs for adults that ended in September. When she is not working/volunteering, she enjoys spending time with family, in addition to traveling, cooking, reading, being a wife, mom and achieving her goals.

When asked what her strongest belief about our mission or the program she volunteers with is, she said "I strongly believe in the Founder's mission to bridge the gap between those residing in poverty and the rest of society, through financial education and teaching about the opportunities that life has for each of us. It is a fact, "When you know better, you do better."”

Staff at The One Less Foundation said that La’Quita is a joy to work with and support in her volunteer efforts.  She prepares for each class in the six-week MoneyWISE program with the needs of the students in mind.

More about La’Quita’s volunteer experiences:

“In late 2013, I began my search for volunteer opportunities to allow me to give back to the community through utilization of my skills and capabilities while growing and developing them at the same time.  Through my on-line search, I found TOLF.  After learning about the organization and their available volunteer opportunities, I knew it would be a perfect match.  I was right!

TOLF's Financial Literacy & Capability Workshop is a quality program. I've worked with some amazing women during my time volunteering with the program.  The women in the program and the TOLF staff were engaged, prepared and motivated.  The best part is I also learned from them.  Volunteering is a gift that keeps on giving.

I'm surprised that more adults in the community are not taking advantage of the program.  If someone wants to make a difference in their financial health, participating in this program is a wise first step. TOLF is prepared to meet many of the needs of those in the local community.  You can be a part of this worthy cause and make a real difference too.

Volunteering is rewarding for me, that's why I volunteer my time with TOLF and other organizations in the community.

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of TOLF and for the honor of being featured as the volunteer spotlight.  I hope others will seize the opportunity to volunteer and encourage a friend or colleague to do so as well.  Also, if you know of a youth or adult who may benefit from the services offered by TOLF, have them contact TOLF right away. “
